Sustainability Performance Measures

Energy

Major Goal:

Jarden Plastic Solutions is striving to meet its goal of using 5% less energy across each manufacturing facility. This goal is 82% in progress and is on track to be completed by the end of 2016.

Continuous Efforts:

  • All facilities will have replaced old lighting fixtures and bulbs with new, energy efficient devices by the end of 2014.
  • Several facilities are evaluating new equipment for energy efficient purposes and monitoring current machines to ensure they utilize the optimal power supply.
  • Old air conditioning units have been replaced and new thermostats installed that are set to timers to reduce needs on nights and weekends.
  • Signs are posted throughout the facilities to remind employees to switch-off lights when not in use.

Water

Major Goal:

Jarden Plastic Solutions is striving to meet its goal of using 5% less water across each manufacturing facility.

Continuous Efforts:

  • Closed loop chilled and tower water systems reduce the amount of water usage at each facility.
  • Facilities are evaluating the installation of low water flow toilets for restrooms.

Packaging

Major Goal:

Jarden Plastic Solutions is reevaluating corrugate packaging and implementing redesigns to reduce total packaging material by 4%. These redesigns will also result in reductions for freight and storage space saving nearly 2% in supply chain costs and 890,000 gallons of fuel.

Continuous Efforts:

  • Cardboard packaging, polythene free from contamination, gaylords, and pallets are either recycled or resold by each facility when possible.

Waste

Major Goal:

Jarden Plastic Solutions recognizes the importance of preventing the loss of resin pellets into the environment and we are committed to implementing the Operation Clean Sweep® program and striving towards zero pellet loss. To help us reach this goal, we are working with our customers to reduce, regrind and recycle resin used for their products. Our goal is to turn that recycled resin into a savings of over 6,000,000lbs from going into landfills each year.

Continuous Efforts:

  • Recycling stations are positioned throughout each facility for employees to recycle plastic, aluminium, office stationary, and toner cartridges. Some contracted recycling companies send proceeds to various non-profit organizations.
